J.T. started his legal career where most lawyers never go: criminal defense. For years he represented clients charged with everything from misdemeanors to federal drug trafficking. He tried more than 120 cases to jury verdict. That record matters because facility negligence cases are not won at a desk. They are won in a courtroom, in front of a jury, against well-funded institutional defendants who know how to delay, obscure, and defend. J.T. has been on that floor before. More than 120 times.

Over time his practice evolved toward a different kind of fight. He began representing patients and families harmed inside healthcare institutions — hospitals that failed to act on deteriorating conditions, nursing homes that left residents to develop pressure injuries that should have been prevented, assisted living facilities that admitted residents requiring skilled nursing care, a level of care Texas law expressly forbids them to provide , and inpatient settings where the systems designed to protect patients quietly broke down. These are not cases about a single provider having a bad day. They are cases about institutional failures: inadequate staffing, ignored protocols, violated state regulations, and systemic indifference to patient safety baked into the way these facilities operate. That distinction shapes how he builds every case he takes.

He has testified before both the Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Senate on patient safety legislation. Legislators refer cases to him.
